The pet fish that got an x-ray

Sushi

I always feel honored when asked to work with a deceased pet. It was a being that was loved and cared for. And that, for sure, was also the case for the following animal.

This is the first time I made a pet memorial from a fish: an mbu pufferfish named Sushi! What makes it even more special, is that Sushi even got x-ray photographs taken when he was still alive. His owner described him as a "puppy, but in water".

Many parts of the body of puffers contain the deadly neurotoxin tetrodoxin. When ingested in sufficient quantities, it can cause paralysis and death. As yet, there is no known antitoxin and to humans it is over 1000 times deadlier than cyanide. Good thing Sushi didn't become sushi!
